- The exhibition, promoted by Fundación Iberdrola España and the Museo Nacional del Prado, travels through the nine provinces of the region with the aim of promoting the knowledge and cultural identity of the country’s historical heritage.
- The Minister of Culture of the Regional Government of Castilla y León, Javier Ortega; the President of the Iberdrola Foundation Spain, Fernando GarcÃa; the Second Deputy Mayor of the City Council of Valladolid and General Delegate Councilor for Culture and Tourism, Ana Redondo, and the Deputy Director of Conservation and Research of the Museo Nacional del Prado, Andrés Úbeda, inaugurated this morning the exhibition that will bring fifty of the most important works of the Museum’s Permanent Collection to the people of Valladolid through life-size photographic reproductions.
Valladolid hosts the exhibition “El Prado en las Calles”, promoted by Fundación Iberdrola España and the Museo Nacional del Prado, with the collaboration of the Junta de Castilla y León and the City Council of Valladolid. This is the second location of this traveling exhibition that started in Salamanca and will tour the nine provinces of the region with the aim of making known the collections and historical heritage attached to the Museo Nacional del Prado through various educational programs and cultural outreach activities.
The exhibition, which recreates a visit to the museum by contemplating the paintings in their real dimensions, living an experience similar to that of standing in front of an authentic work of art, will be open to the public from June 4 to July 5 at the Paseo del PrÃncipe (Campo Grande).
This successful cultural initiative was inaugurated this morning by the Minister of Culture of the Junta de Castilla y León, Javier Ortega; the President of the Fundación Iberdrola España, Fernando GarcÃa; the Second Deputy Mayor of the City of Valladolid and General Delegate Councilor for Culture and Tourism, Ana Redondo, and the Deputy Director of Conservation and Research of the Museo Nacional del Prado, Andrés Úbeda, and will bring 50 of the most important works from the Museum’s Permanent Collection to the people of Valladolid through life-size photographic reproductions.
A journey through the history of Western art
This great open-air exhibition, curated by Fernando Pérez Suescun, head of Didactic Contents of the Prado Museum, will allow visitors to take a tour through the different schools that make up the artistic panorama of the Prado’s permanent collection and learn about the history of Spain, Europe and Western art in general through the great masters of painting. The Spanish, Italian, Flemish, French, German and Dutch schools will be present through their protagonists from the twelfth century to the early twentieth century.
The exhibition also has posters and bilingual information panels for each of the works that provide information about the history of the Museum and its collections.
The reproductions are shown on a 1:1 scale, so that, due to the dimensions of the exhibition supports, only a magnificent and grandiose detail of the work can be shown of some of the large paintings, which can be seen in full on the explanatory poster.
After the great success of the exhibition during the celebration of the Museum’s Bicentennial, “El Prado en las Calles” toured the geography of Castilla-La Mancha until April 26th. In practically one year, thousands of visitors have been able to admire some of the wonders that the Museum treasures in faithful reproductions, reinforcing culture through daily visits and always respecting the anti-COVID19 safety regulations in force.
“El Prado en las Calles” began its journey through Castilian and Leonese lands, specifically in Salamanca on April 30, and, over ten months, will travel to other cities of Castilla y León, in addition to Salamanca and Valladolid, where it is presented today, León, Aguilar de Campoo, Burgos, Soria, Segovia, Avila and Benavente will be able to enjoy the exhibition.

Fundación Iberdrola España develops one of its main lines of activity around the care and maintenance of the cultural and artistic wealth of our country.
It has been collaborating with the Museo del Prado since 2010 by supporting the conservation and restoration programs of the art gallery, as well as in the development of 4 annual scholarships for young restorers. It also wished to join the Extraordinary Program for the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the Museo del Prado and, specifically, the deployment of this traveling exhibition in Spain.
Since 2011, Fundación Iberdrola España has allocated a total of 13 million euros to the area of Art and Culture, which focuses its resources mainly on the Restorations Program, which supports the restoration workshops of leading museums for the conservation of their pictorial and artistic heritage; and the Illuminations Program, which includes the design, execution and financing of artistic lighting projects in unique buildings and monuments.
