- An initiative of Fundación Iberdrola España, Save the Children, and the City Council of Illescas (Toledo) aiming to re-engage young people from the municipality of Illescas between the ages of 16 and 30 who are at risk of social exclusion in the educational environment. The aim is to provide them with the necessary skills to be able to get a job and keep it. The program will be developed at Save the Children’s Center for Family and Teenage Care (CDAFA) in Illescas and at the Centro de Creación Joven of the Illescas City Council.
On Wednesday, November 10th, Fundación Iberdrola España inaugurated the Programa Inspira at the Iberdrola Campus in San Agustín de Guadalix. A social and labor insertion program aimed at young people between the ages of 16 and 30 at risk of social exclusion and vulnerability. The program is aligned with the commitment of the Iberdrola Group and its Foundation in Spain to strengthen employability and inclusive training among young people. An area to which the energy company and its Foundation have allocated 14 million euros in the last five years.
One of the objectives of the project is to contribute to the incorporation of this group into the labor market, reinforcing their initial academic and complementary training, and motivating both young people and their families to redirect themselves towards theoretical and practical training in the energy sector, a sector that is currently in continuous growth and has a high demand for work. In addition, the program includes an internship in a real environment, so that they can actively participate and gain more experience.
In recent years, Vocational Training in Spain has experienced great growth, with an increase of 60.4% in the last decade. However, this year they represent only 11.2% of non-university students. Thus, Fundación Iberdrola España wants to boost these figures, especially with young people at risk of social exclusion.
Development of the course
The program has a duration of 11 weeks and will cover several modules related to the Green Economy, such as Energy Efficiency, Domotics, Electric Vehicle, Assembly and maintenance of photovoltaic installations, and Reforestation Techniques, among other teachings. Some entities in charge of teaching this content in addition to Iberdrola, will be: Save the Children, Fundación Tomillo, Reforesta, or Fundación GFM Renovables.
Last Wednesday, the students had their first introduction into the electricity sector. In the theoretical part, they talked about generation, distribution, and innovation. In the practical part, they visited a prevention workshop and a substation workshop where they learned more about its operation through virtual reality.
This first day took place at the Iberdrola Campus, a 180,000 m2 complex located in San Agustín de Guadalix that houses training, innovation, events, and work centers. These state-of-the-art facilities are the company’s global center for knowledge, innovation, and employability. With nearly 13,000 people receiving training development in its classrooms annually, it represents Iberdrola’s commitment to technology, R&D, and collaboration with technology centers as driving forces to lead the energy transition, the green recovery of the economy, and the employment and employability of young and senior professionals in sectors of the future.
