- The exhibition promoted by Fundación Iberdrola España will travel around the nine provinces of the region with the aim of promoting the knowledge and cultural identity of the country’s historical heritage.
- The Minister of Culture of the Junta de Castilla y León, Javier Ortega; the president of Fundación Iberdrola España, Fernando García; the first deputy mayor of the City Council of Salamanca, Ana Suárez, and the deputy director of Conservation and Research of the Museo Nacional del Prado, Andrés Úbeda, inaugurated this morning the exhibition that will bring fifty of the most important works from the Museum’s Permanent Collection to the public of Salamanca through life-size photographic reproductions.
The exhibition “El Museo del Prado en las Calles”, promoted by the Fundación Iberdrola España and the Museo Nacional del Prado, with the collaboration of the Junta de Castilla y León and the City Council of Salamanca, opens in Salamanca. The exhibition will tour the nine provinces of the region with the aim of raising awareness of the collections and historical heritage attached to the Prado Museum through various educational programs and cultural outreach activities.
The exhibition, which recreates a visit to the museum by contemplating the paintings in their real dimensions, living an experience similar to that of standing in front of a real work of art, can be visited between April 30 and May 31 in the Plaza de la Concordia.
The exhibition was inaugurated this morning by the Minister of Culture of the Junta de Castilla y León, Javier Ortega; the president of Fundación Iberdrola España, Fernando García; the first deputy mayor of the City of Salamanca, Ana Suárez, and the deputy director of Conservation and Research of the Museo Nacional del Prado, Andrés Úbeda, and will bring the Salamanca public closer to 50 of the most important works of the Museum’s Permanent Collection through life-size photographic reproductions.
A journey through the history of Western art
This great open-air exhibition, which will be curated by Fernando Pérez Suescun, head of Didactic Contents of the Prado Museum, will allow the visiting public to take a tour through the different schools that make up the artistic panorama of the Prado’s permanent collection and to learn about the history of Spain, Europe and Western art in general through the great masters of painting. The Spanish, Italian, Flemish, French, German and Dutch schools will be present through their protagonists from the twelfth century to the early twentieth century.
The exhibition also has posters and bilingual information panels for each of the works that provide information about the history of the Museum and its collections.
The reproductions are shown on a 1:1 scale, so that, due to the dimensions of the exhibition supports, only a magnificent and grandiose detail of the work can be shown of some of the large paintings, which can be seen in full on the explanatory poster.
After the great success of the exhibition during the celebration of the Museum’s Bicentennial, “El Prado en las Calles” toured the geography of Castilla-La Mancha until March 26th. In practically one year, thousands of visitors have been able to admire some of the wonders that the Museum treasures in faithful reproductions, reinforcing the culture through daily visits and always respecting the anti-COVID19 safety regulations in force.
The Prado in the streets begins today its journey through the lands of Castile and Leon and, over ten months, will visit nine cities of Castilla y Leon, in addition to Salamanca, Valladolid, Leon, Aguilar de Campo, Burgos, Soria, Segovia, Avila and Benavente will be able to enjoy the exhibition.

Fundación Iberdrola España develops one of its main lines of activity around the care and maintenance of the cultural and artistic wealth of our country.
It has been collaborating with the Museo del Prado since 2010 by supporting the conservation and restoration programs of the art gallery, as well as in the development of 4 annual scholarships for young restorers. It also wished to join the Extraordinary Program for the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the Museo del Prado and, specifically, the deployment of this traveling exhibition in Spain.
Since 2011, Fundación Iberdrola España has allocated a total of 13 million euros to the area of Art and Culture, which focuses its resources mainly on the Restorations Program, which supports the restoration workshops of leading museums for the conservation of their pictorial and artistic heritage; and the Illuminations Program, which includes the design, execution and financing of artistic lighting projects in unique buildings and monuments.
