  • The mayor of Burgos, Daniel de la Rosa, the president of the Fundación Iberdrola España, Fernando García, the counselor of Culture of the Junta de Castilla y León, Javier Ortega, and the deputy director of the Museo Nacional del Prado, Andrés Úbeda, have unveiled this morning the exhibition that will bring burgaleses nearer to fifty of the most relevant pieces of the Permanent Collection of the Museum through life-size reproductions.

Burgos welcomes the exhibition El Prado en las Calles promoted by the Fundación Iberdrola España and the Museo Nacional del Prado, in collaboration with the Junta de Castilla y León and the city´s town Hall. This is the fifth location of the itinerary showcase that began in Salamanca and made its last stops in Valladolid, León, and Aguilar de Campoo. The exhibit will go through all nine provinces as a way of making known the collections and historical heritage attached to the Museo Nacional del Prado through several educational programs and activities of cultural outreach.

The exhibition resembles a visit to the museum by showcasing the paintings in their full dimensions, which creates a similar experience to standing before a real art piece. It will be open from September 10th to October 14th at the Paseo de Marceliano de Santa María, one of the city’s most emblematic locations.

This successful cultural initiative has been unveiled this morning by Burgos’ mayor, Daniel de la Rosa, the president of the Fundación Iberdrola España, Fernando García, the counselor of Culture of the Junta de Castilla y León, Javier Ortega, and the deputy director of the Museo Nacional del Prado, Andrés Úbeda, and will bring Burgos citizens closer to fifty of the most relevant pieces of the Permanent Collection of the Museum through life-size reproductions.

A journey through the history of western art

This great open-air exhibition, commissioned by Fernando Pérez Suescun, chief of Didactic Content of the Museo del Prado, will allow the public to take a tour through all the different schools that encompass the artistic panoramic of the Prado’s permanent collection and to get acquainted with the history of Spain, Europe and western art in general by the hand of the greatest masters of paint. The Spanish, Italian, Flemish, French, German, and Dutch schools of art will be present through their main characters from the XII century until the beginning of the XX century.

The showcase also has in all the pieces bilingual posters and information boards with data about the Museum’s history and its collections.

The reproductions are shown at a 1:1 scale and due to the dimensions of the exhibition stands, some of the largest pieces will be only shown in great detail through the explicative poster.

After the great success achieved during the celebration of the bicentenary of the Museum, El Prado en las calles went on a journey through the Castilla – La Mancha community until last April 26th. In almost two years, thousands of visitors have been able to admire the detailed reproductions of some of the wonders that the museum contains, reinforcing culture through daily visits, always respecting current COVID19 safety standards.

El Prado en las calles started its journey through the Castilla y Leon region, more specifically in Salamanca last April 30th and the next ten months will go through other Castilla y León cities besides Salamanca; Valladolid, León, Aguilar de Campoo, Burgos, where it´s located today and later on in Soria, Segovia, Ávila, and Benavente.

Fundación Iberdrola España develops one of its main lines of business around the care and upkeep of our country’s cultural and artistic riches.

In collaboration with the Museo del Prado since 2010 by supporting restoration and preservation programs of the collection as well as the creation of 4 annual scholarships for young restaurateurs. The Fundación has also joined the Programa Extraordinario for the Museo del Prado’s Bicentennial Commemoration, more specifically to its itinerary exhibition through Spain.

The Fundación Iberdrola España has allocated since 2011, a grand total of 13 million euros to the Art and Culture department, which mainly uses its resources in the Restoration Program, which supports restoration workshops of reference museums to preserve its pictorial and artistic heritage; and to the Lighting Program, which deals with the design, execution, and funding of artistic lighting projects for remarkable buildings and monuments.
