  • The mayor of Segovia, Clara Luquero de Nicolás; the president of the Fundación Iberdrola España, Fernando García; the deputy minister of Culture of the Junta de Castilla y León, Raúl Fernández Sobrino, and the deputy director of Conservation and Research of the Museo Nacional del Prado, Andrés Úbeda de los Cobos, inaugurated this morning the exhibition that will bring fifty of the most important works of the Museum’s Permanent Collection to Segovians through life-size photographic reproductions.

Segovia hosts the exhibition ‘El Prado en las Calles’, promoted by the Fundación Iberdrola España and the Museo Nacional del Prado, with the collaboration of the Junta de Castilla y León and the City Council of the city. This is the seventh location of this traveling exhibition, which started in Salamanca and made its last stops in Valladolid, León, Aguilar de Campoo, Burgos, and Soria, and is touring the nine provinces of the region with to raise awareness of the collections and historical heritage attached to the Museo Nacional del Prado through various educational programs and cultural outreach activities.

The exhibition resembles a visit to the museum by showcasing the paintings in their full dimensions, which creates a similar experience to standing before a real art piece. It can be visited between November 12th and December 13th at the Paseo del Salón de Isabel II, one of the most emblematic spaces in the city.

This successful cultural initiative was inaugurated this morning by the mayoress of Segovia, Clara Luquero de Nicolás; the president of the Fundación Iberdrola España, Fernando García; the deputy minister of Culture of the Junta de Castilla y León, Raúl Fernández Sobrino, and the deputy director of Conservation and Research of the Museo Nacional del Prado, Andrés Úbeda de los Cobos, and will bring Segovians closer to 50 of the most relevant works of the Museum’s Permanent Collection through life-size photographic reproductions.

A journey through the history of Western art

This large outdoor exhibition, which is curated by Fernando Pérez Suescun, head of Educational Contents of the Prado Museum, will allow the visiting public to take a tour of the different schools that make up the artistic panorama of the Prado’s permanent collection and learn about the history of Spain, Europe and Western art in general through the great masters of painting. The Spanish, Italian, Flemish, French, German, and Dutch schools will be present through their protagonists from the twelfth century to the early twentieth century.

The exhibition also has posters and bilingual information panels for each of the works that provide information about the history of the Museum and its collections.

The reproductions are shown on a 1:1 scale, so that, due to the dimensions of the exhibition supports, only a magnificent and grandiose detail of the work can be shown of some of the large paintings, which can be seen in full on the explanatory poster.

After the great success of the exhibition during the celebration of the Museum’s Bicentennial, “El Prado en las Calles” toured the geography of Castilla-La Mancha until April 26th. In almost two years, thousands of visitors have been able to admire some of the wonders that the Museum treasures in faithful reproductions, reinforcing culture through daily visits and always respecting the anti-COVID19 safety regulations in force.

“El Prado en las calles” began its journey through Castilian and Leonese lands, specifically in Salamanca on April 30, and, over ten months, will travel to other cities of Castilla y León, in addition to Salamanca, Valladolid, León, Aguilar de Campoo, Burgos and Soria, its last stop, Segovia, where it is presented today, Avila and Benavente will be able to enjoy the exhibition.

Fundación Iberdrola España develops one of its main lines of activity around the care and maintenance of the cultural and artistic riches of our country.

It has been collaborating with the Museo del Prado since 2010 by supporting the conservation and restoration programs of the art gallery, as well as in the development of 4 annual scholarships for young restorers. It also promoted the Extraordinary Program for the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the Museo del Prado and, specifically, the deployment of this traveling exhibition in Spain, which today continues to be a great success.

Since 2011, Fundación Iberdrola España has allocated a total of 13 million euros to the Art and Culture area, which focuses its resources mainly on the Restorations Program, which supports the restoration workshops of reference museums for the conservation of their pictorial and artistic heritage; and the Lighting Program, which contemplates the design, execution, and financing of artistic lighting projects in unique buildings and monuments.
