VET to ‘re-engage’ young people who put their studies on hold

  • The Regional Ministry of Education of Castilla-La Mancha and Fundación Iberdrola España are financing two training programs.
  • Both are Green Economy programs that seek to reintegrate young people in vulnerable situations into education.

Fundación Iberdrola España has been chosen by the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha to be one of the entities that will carry out training programs for young people in social exclusion. The objective is to prevent early school dropouts.

At the end of November 2021, the Foundation submitted two proposals to the call. These initiatives contribute to the territorial expansion of its current Inspira Program, which began in early November in Illescas, along with Save the Children. The main mission of this initiative is the educational re-engagement of young people between the ages of 16 and 30.

The Foundation aims to replicate this project, which is already underway, in other municipalities of Castilla-La Mancha. One of them will be called Programa Inspira II and will be carried out in the region of La Sagra with the help of Save the Children. The second, called Programa Reactiva, with the collaboration of Ayuda en Acción, will be carried out in the municipality of Puertollano.

Thanks to the Regional Ministry of Castilla – La Mancha, Fundación Iberdrola España will be able to carry out these two projects with over 800,000 euros of funding.

The goal is to incorporate this population sector into the labor market by reinforcing their initial academic training. The aim is to complement these studies and motivate both young people and their families to redirect them towards theoretical and practical training in the energy sector. This is a sector that is currently in continuous growth and is in great demand for work.

In recent years, Vocational Training in Spain is experiencing great growth, with an increase of 60.4% in the last decade. However, this year they represent only 11.2% of non-university students. Fundación Iberdrola España wants to boost these figures and to do it, moreover, with young people at risk of social exclusion.

Fundación Iberdrola España collaborates with scholarship programs of various institutions such as the Fulbright Commission, which each year calls for Iberdrola-Fulbright scholarships; Fundación Carolina, which has a program for Mexican and Brazilian students; and the restoration workshops of the Museo Nacional del Prado and the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao, which allow future specialists to complete their training in the conservation and restoration programs of these institutions.
